What is the history of the school?

Sioux Center Christian School has a rich history of serving the Lord.  Established in 1905, the school has educated students from a Reformed perspective for over 100 years and continues to do so today.  A dedicated faculty, staff, and board enjoy working with His covenant children, fulfilling the mission to develop in each of God's children a knowledge and understanding of Christ and His creation so that they can obediently serve God and others as they work and play.  We look forward to discussing with you what God is doing through Sioux Center Christian School!

Do you have a hot lunch program?
Yes we do.
Hot lunch is served every school day to the students at a cost of $2.10 per meal. We are also a part of the free/reduced hot lunch program for those families who qualify. (This is based on family income)

Do you have buses?
Yes. We share busing with the Community School. SCCS runs two routes and the Community School about nine. The SCCS buses are allowed to go out of the school district to pick up SCCS students. The Community School is not.

What is your enrollment?
For the 2012-2013 school year, we will have approximately 445 students, grades K-8.  We have three sections of Kindergarten through third grade, with class sizes ranging from about 16-20. SCCS has two sections in grades 4-8. Class sizes range from about 18-24.

Tuition costs will be billed to the parents on a ten month schedule. Because of the tremendous support of the community through Fair Share, tuition costs for all families is reduced.  Fair Share is what is collected through the churches, gifts and projects. Parents are not charged the Fair Share portion, but they are encouraged to pay as much of it as possible and to be active members of the Fair Share program.


How often do the Kindergarteners meet?
Kindergarten classes meet three full days a week (Mon., Wed., and Thurs.) through October 4.  Beginning on October 8, all Kindergarteners attend full days, four days a week (Mon.-Thurs.)

Our new transitional kindergarten class meets half days following the same schedule as our kindergarten classes listed above.

Do you have support programs?

Yes, we have many co-curriculular programs to support and enhance the total educational program at SCCS.  These programs include:

  • Band (grades 5-8)
  • Orchestra (grades 3-8)
  • Library
  • Resource Room (Inclusive Education Support)
  • Discovery Room (Talented and Gifted program)
  • Three mobile computer labs and a full-time Technology Coordinator
  • A well-equipped Science lab
  • Remedial Reading support (Title I)
  • Interscholoastic athletics (soccer, volleyball, basketball and track as well as football with area Christian high schools)
  • 6th-8th grade Art teacher
  • Guidance counselor


Governance?
SCCS is a non-profit corporation of individuals, including all parents of enrolled children, who meet at least annually to elect members to a board of directors and adopt a budget. The board, through its administrative staff, assumes day-to-day operation of the school, including supervision of employees, curricula, finances, and facilities.

Do you have a Moms - In - Touch program?
Yes, a very active and healthy
program that meets at 2:00 p.m. each Wednesday afternoon.

Is there a parent's organization?
Yes, the
Guild is made up of parents and supporters who hold fundraisers to help support the funding of the school. Also, several events are held to simply build up the promotional aspect of the school.
