The entire school had a GREAT Field Day! Everyone got the chance to get to know their small groups, and the 8th graders did an awesome job at leading each of the groups during the different events. We started by having an all-school cookout and then a scavenger hunt, followed by eight different events. Each event represented the Armor of God in some way. The obstacle course reminded us that we need God's armor to be able to get through the schemes the devil places in our lives. We needed a helmet to protect us during the scooter race. And we used the "sword" during our baloon baton competition, symbolizing how the Sword of the Spirit helps to keep sin out of our lives. Our theme year has started off with a bang!
SCCS started the Armor of God pieces by learning about the Belt of Truth. We all learned that we need to put on the truth of God by going to church, praying, reading the Bible, having good friends, and trusting in Jesus. At the chapel, we put each of these items on our own Belt of Truth. After the chapel, students met in their small groups to talk about what happened in chapel, to design their own armor person, and to learn more about the Armor of God and other students!
SCCS learned more about the Armor of God through the Breastplate of Righteousness chapel. We all learned just how important it is to protect our hearts against evil.
SCCS continued our Armor of God theme for the year, focusing on the Shoes of Peace for this month's chapel and small group gathering. We all learned that we must always be ready to spread the gospel and help others spread the gospel as well!
SCCS continued our school-wide theme with our Shield of Faith chapel. We learned that we always need to trust God, even when we don't understand or when we don't know what will happen.
SCCS continued its Armor of God theme by focusing on the Helmet of Salvation. The school was blessed to have a special speaker, Rev. Rog Voskuil, to present the story of David and Goliath, complete with slides, costumes, and an authentic weapon. The story used important and interesting details from the Bible. Rev. Voskuil reminded us that if we have God in our heart, we can do amazing things!
SCCS wrapped up its monthly chapels with the Sword of the Spirit chapel! We all learned that the Sword of the Spirit is the Word of God and that we should always be ready to share the Word and defend it.
