Sioux Center Christian School has a rich history of serving the Lord.  Established in 1905, the school has educated students from a Reformed perspective for over 100 years and continues to do so today. 

A dedicated faculty, staff, and board enjoy working with His covenant children, fulfilling the mission to disciple God's children by equipping them with a knowledge and understanding of Christ and His creation so that they can obediently serve God and others as they work and play.

SCHOOL COUNSELOR (FULL-TIME)

The ideal candidate will partner with all faculty and staff members and will be someone who:

  • Has a heart for God and His kids
  • Partners well with parents, faculty, staff, administrators, and local agencies and works to enhance understanding of a student’s development and its impact on learning
  • Is organized, flexible, patient, responsible, willing to learn, and able to recognize and celebrate students’ gifts
  • Assists students with academic, emotional, social, spiritual, and/or behavioral concerns and shows concern and support for the total needs of each student, encouraging maximum growth and development into who God has created them to be
  • Provides classroom instruction for assigned grade levels (guidance classes)
  • Provides orientation for new students
  • Serves as a resource for students, parents, faculty, and staff
  • Is uniquely qualified to provide individual and group counseling
  • Is comfortable partnering with classroom teachers around student situations
  • Helps students understand and celebrate their talents and gifts
  • Has an understanding of the Teaching for Transformation framework, or the willingness to learn
  • Has an understanding of the Response to Intervention framework, or the willingness to learn
  • Has a passion for Reformed Christian education and faith nurturing
The candidate should have a master’s degree in school counseling or a closely related field.

 

3RD GRADE TEACHER (FULL-TIME)

The ideal candidate will partner with 2 other members of the 3rd grade team and will be someone who:

  • Has a heart for God and His kids
  • Has the ability to creatively meet student needs using a variety of strategies and materials
  • Is able to collaborate with other teachers, parents, paraprofessionals, school staff, and inclusive education team members
  • Is organized, flexible, patient, responsible, willing to learn, and able to recognize and celebrate students’ gifts
  • Feels comfortable reporting progress and information to administrators, other teachers, and parents
  • Is uniquely qualified to teach 3rd graders and implement the school’s curriculum
  • Is uniquely qualified to instill a love of learning with students
  • Helps students understand and celebrate their talents and gifts
  • Has an understanding of the Teaching for Transformation framework, or the willingness to learn
  • Has an understanding of the Response to Intervention framework, or the willingness to learn
  • Has a passion for Reformed Christian education and faith nurturing

The candidate should have a valid Iowa teaching license that meets the requirements of the position or the ability to gain such a license.

 

4TH GRADE TEACHER (FULL-TIME):

The ideal candidate will partner with 2 other members of the 4th grade team and will be someone who:

  • Has a heart for God and His kids
  • Has the ability to creatively meet student needs using a variety of strategies and materials
  • Is able to collaborate with other teachers, parents, paraprofessionals, school staff, and inclusive education team members
  • Is organized, flexible, patient, responsible, willing to learn, and able to recognize and celebrate students’ gifts
  • Feels comfortable reporting progress and information to administrators, other teachers, and parents
  • Is uniquely qualified to teach 4th graders and implement the school’s curriculum
  • Is uniquely qualified to instill a love of learning with students
  • Helps students understand and celebrate their talents and gifts
  • Has an understanding of the Teaching for Transformation framework, or the willingness to learn
  • Has an understanding of the Response to Intervention framework, or the willingness to learn
  • Has a passion for Reformed Christian education and faith nurturing
The candidate should have a valid Iowa teaching license that meets the requirements of the position or the ability to gain such a license.

 

DISCOVERY COORDINATOR AND TEACHER (FULL-TIME):

The ideal candidate will partner with all faculty and staff members and will be someone who:

  • Has a heart for God and His kids
  • Has the ability to creatively meet the needs of high-ability students using a variety of strategies and materials
  • Is able to collaborate with other teachers, parents, paraprofessionals, school staff, and inclusive education team members
  • Is organized, flexible, patient, responsible, willing to learn, and able to recognize and celebrate students’ gifts
  • Feels comfortable reporting progress and information to administrators, other teachers, and parents
  • Is uniquely qualified to teach high-ability learners in individual and small group sessions
  • Is uniquely qualified to instill a love of learning with students
  • Helps students understand and celebrate their talents and gifts
  • Has an understanding of the Teaching for Transformation framework, or the willingness to learn
  • Has an understanding of the Response to Intervention framework, or the willingness to learn
  • Has a passion for Reformed Christian education and faith nurturing
  • Has skills in administering the high-ability learning program

The candidate should have a valid Iowa teaching license that includes the talented and gifted endorsement or the ability to gain such a license/endorsement.

 

TITLE 1 TEACHER (0.85 FTE or adjusted based on the best fit candidate):

The ideal candidate will partner with faculty and staff members and will be someone who:

  • Has a heart for God and His kids
  • Has the ability to creatively meet the needs of students using a variety of strategies and materials
  • Is able to collaborate with other teachers, parents, paraprofessionals, school staff, and inclusive education team members
  • Is organized, flexible, patient, responsible, willing to learn, and able to recognize and celebrate students’ gifts
  • Feels comfortable reporting progress and information to administrators, other teachers, and parents
  • Is uniquely qualified to support students in individual and small group sessions
  • Is uniquely qualified to instill a love of learning with students
  • Helps students understand and celebrate their talents and gifts
  • Has an understanding of the Teaching for Transformation framework, or the willingness to learn
  • Has an understanding of the Response to Intervention framework, or the willingness to learn
  • Has a passion for Reformed Christian education and faith nurturing

The candidate should have a valid Iowa teaching license that includes either a reading or special education endorsement or the ability to gain such a license/endorsement.  The current position is 0.85 FTE and could be adjusted based on the best fit candidate.

 

READING SPECIALIST (FULL-TIME):

The ideal candidate will be someone who can fulfill the following requirements and responsibilities:

REQUIREMENTS:

  • In order to fulfill the mission of the school, it is important that this position follow all school policies, procedures, and philosophies, located in the employee handbook and other sources, both written and verbal.
  • Wholeheartedly agree to and fulfill the school’s statement of faith and Christian code of conduct.
  • Demonstrate success as a teacher and hold a current teaching license and certification in the Wilson Reading System or another Orton-Gillingham system, or the willingness to gain such certification.
  • Skills in collaboration, research, and innovation.
  • Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, administrators, parents, faculty, and staff.
  • The ability to show leadership with students, administrators, parents, faculty, and staff.
  • Understand, articulate, and exemplify teaching and learning from a Reformed Christian perspective.
  • Understand and support the needs of learners with varying learning styles and needs. Explain and provide support for these learning styles and needs with school faculty and staff.
  • Demonstrate a love of teaching, learning, and serving others. Possess experience in implementing interventions.
  • Possess a dyslexia certification, or the willingness to gain such a certification

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide input in relation to the capacity for SCCS to address a prospective child’s needs.
  • Provide leadership and support for high quality reading instruction at SCCS, including training faculty and staff. Provide support to teachers and strategies to improve instruction that will support literacy growth across the curriculum. Collaborate with teachers in all departments to promote learning and implementation of literacy best practices.
  • Collaborate with teachers to ensure shared instructional language across grade levels and tiers of instruction.
  • Create educational programs for students being served by partnering with the classroom teacher and case manager. Work with parents and the classroom teacher to set and monitor student goals. Partner with outside service providers.
  • Fulfill responsibilities of progress monitoring for assigned students. Regularly report progress to parents and teachers, including both verbal updates and written forms (progress reports, report cards, etc.).
  • Foster a culture of reading that ensures strong reading instruction and a genuine love for reading.
  • Assist with universal screening and assist in analyzing data to inform instruction.
  • Implement early intervention and new student dyslexia screenings and assist faculty and staff in creating action steps based on results.
  • Provide support services to students on assigned caseload, including the Wilson Reading System and other interventions. Provide instruction that corresponds with student goals. Teach targeted intervention to small groups of students and individuals.
  • Design, implement, and oversee a summer program for students using the Wilson Reading System.
  • Manage and maintain all resources and materials provided for student use.
  • Assist in future planning related to the inclusive education department.
  • Other duties as assigned and appropriate.

PARAPROFESSIONAL (FULL-TIME one-to-one support for a 1st grader) - start date of August 2023

PARAPROFESSIONAL (FULL-TIME one-to-one support for a 4th grader) - start day of August 2023

We are seeking a support staff member to join our team as we work to meet the needs of our students. The ideal candidate will be someone who:

  • Has a heart for God and His kids
  • Is uniquely gifted by God to support students who learn differently
  • Has the ability to creatively meet student needs using a variety of strategies and materials
  • Is able to collaborate with other support staff, teachers, and members of the inclusive education team
  • Feels comfortable reporting progress and information to teachers and inclusive education team members
  • Is willing to work hard and fulfill various tasks in relation to meeting student needs
  • Has an understanding of the Response to Intervention model, or the willingness to learn
  • Has a servant heart and a passion for Reformed Christian education and faith nurturing

Qualified applicants include those with a background in education, psychology, and/or social work or other related fields. 

 

ASSISTANT CUSTODIAN (FULL OR PART-TIME): 

We are seeking to fill the role of custodian in a full or part time capacity.

  • The ideal candidate will be someone who:
  • Has a heart for God and His kids
  • Is equipped to provide daily cleaning tasks, floor refinishing in the summer, and daily floor scrubbing
  • Is able to assist with the set up and take down process for school events
  • Displays an attention to detail and joy in providing a clean, effective, safe learning space for students
  • Has the ability to lift over 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work
  • Possesses exceptional decision-making abilities
  • Is able to collaborate with other support staff, teachers, and members of the inclusive education team
  • Has a servant heart and a passion for Reformed Christian education and faith nurturing

Qualified applicants include those with similar experience in previous positions or the willingness to work hard and learn.

 

BUS DRIVERS (any combination of route or activity bus driving):  The school will pay for all expenses related to securing a license and/or training costs.
